For eighteen years GREAT BEAR set the standard and pushed the boundaries of modern contra dance music. They toured all over North America and are known for their epic dynamics and genre-transcending arrangements. Multi-instrumentalist brothers Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand and their mom Kim “Mama Bear” Yerton made up the original Great Bear Trio, named after the Great Bear Springs Recreation Area near their home in upstate New York. They performed together from 2000-2018, recording several albums and even hosting their own dance and music festival called The Groove.
